Introducing…

ALEXA AND GIZMO'S TIME TRAVEL ADVENTURES

Written and Illustrated by Alexa W.
Age 9

(The following story was written by Alexa when she was in first grade)

My name is Alexa. I live in Illinois with my parents and my dog Gizmo. I love adventures, and I like learning about our presidents and history.

Alexa and Gizmo find a strange machine with lots of buttons of history people. Join them on an adventure through time.

Thanks to my dad for teaching me about history. Thanks to my mom who takes walks with me and Gizmo while we tell the Gizmo stories.
Also, to my dog Gizmo, my favorite furry friend.

"Mom, Dad, I'm taking Gizmo for a walk. I'll be back later," said Alexa.

“Alright, Alexa. Be back before dark.

"Make sure Gizmo can get a good walk,” said Mom.

On the walk, Alexa and Gizmo find a strange machine with lots of buttons of history people.

“Oh my goodness! Gizmo, I think we found a time machine,” said Alexa.

“Oh great! Yes!” said Gizmo.

“Gizmo, we should go in the machine and have a good adventure. Look at all the buttons of history people,” said Alexa.

"Alexa, are we going to be ok?" asked Gizmo.

“Gizmo, we were born to do this. Now press a button and let’s go on an adventure,” said Alexa.

Alexa presses the George Washington button. The time machine shakes and moves. The door opens, and Gizmo does not want to walk out. Alexa is brave and gets out of the machine.

They are in the year 1776.

They step off the time machine and see horses, people walking, and Thomas Jefferson.

“Oh my goodness, Gizmo. There is Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States of America,” says Alexa.

“Thomas Jefferson says, “Who are you and why are you here?”

“Hi, I’m Alexa from the future. Can you point to the direction where George Washington is, please? I need to tell him something really important.”

Jefferson takes Alexa and Gizmo to George Washington, where he is writing words on paper.

Thomas Jefferson says, “General Washington, this little girl needs to talk to you.”

“Hi, I’m Alexa from the future. Benedict Arnold is going to betray you. Be careful,” says Alexa.

“Thank you little girl,” says George Washington, “I will.”

“Oh, Thomas Jefferson, you also become the third President of the United States,” says Alexa.

Washington and Jefferson look at each other and then look back at Alexa. Alexa and Gizmo watch them sign the Declaration of Independence.

“Alexa,” says Gizmo. “Hurry, the button for 1865 is glowing. We have to go. Press it,” said Gizmo.

The time machine took off! The time machine lands. Alexa and Gizmo walk out a little scared. They see Abraham Lincoln outside the theater.

“Oh my goodness, Gizmo. I think that is Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president,” said Alexa.

“Oh, I don’t believe you,” said Gizmo.

“No, really, look!” said Alexa.

“Hello, who are you?” said Abraham Lincoln.

“Oh, my name is Alexa. This is my dog, Gizmo,” said Alexa.

“What are you doing here?” he said.

“I need to tell you something that is important. Don’t go into the theater,” Alexa said.

“Why?” said Abraham Lincoln.

“Because John Wilkes Booth is going to assassinate you tonight inside the theater,” said Alexa.

“What?! I have to go inside,” says Lincoln.

Alexa follows Lincoln and grabs a costume from the back and hands it to Lincoln so he can look different. He puts on the costume and puts the top hat on Alexa’s head. Alexa sneaks Lincoln outside. Alexa and Gizmo hop into the time machine.

They say, “Bye, Abraham Lincoln! You will change the world. You’ll be on the five-dollar bill you know!”

Lincoln says, “You helped me a lot little girl, thank you! Keep the hat.”

Gizmo pushes the 2023 button to go home and Lincoln watches the time machine disappear.

The year is back to 2023.

“Mom, Dad, I’m back home,” said Alexa.

“How was your walk sweetie?” asked Mom.

“It was good, Mom. I had a great adventure,” said Alexa.

“Tell us about your adventure, sweetie,” said Mom.

Gizmo and Alexa look at each other. “It’s a long story Mom,” said Alexa.
